Two years ago, when The Creative Act was first published, I couldn’t have imagined the magnitude of the response. Readers around the world have given the book a life of its own. Messages from those who’ve changed the way they think about creative work have been deeply moving.
Since the book is more philosophical than practical, the idea of exploring practices based on its philosophy felt like a natural step. A useful addition to the story.
You can participate in that story here.
We’ll begin with a weekly communique of actionable practices to engage with: thoughtforms & innerworks.
Each one might become a daily practice. Or something to turn to when you feel stuck and want to reset.
You may find it helpful to create a space—physical or digital—to work through the practices. A notebook, a journal, a folder on your phone.
Somewhere to reflect, respond, and revisit over time.
The practices aren’t dogmatic. They aren’t rigid.
They’re meant to be pondered slowly. With open-minded curiosity.
Skip any that don’t speak to you. Adapt them.
There is no right way to engage. Only your way.
The practices themselves have no power.
Their purpose is to create an opening.
An invitation to access parts of yourself—
dormant, forgotten, or taught out of you.
Whatever you discover is already within you.
You’ll get out what you put in. No more, no less.
If you believe the practices won’t work, you’ll prove yourself right.
Let them be a mirror.
A doorway.
A place to meet yourself, again and again.
