I grew up in a house where we were told to always be productive (translation, don't sit idle when you could be earning money). I've come a long way since then, having worked hard, saved, and also being with a Renaissance Man who's always encouraging me to write poetry, read and create. But I haven't lost the guilt. I keep thinking spending time like this (creating) is something I should do in retirement, perhaps 5-8 years from now. But feeling a sense of urgency that then is now.
You can do it now with your morning coffee even if you have only two minutes. You can write a blues lyric in a notebook or on a napkin! Just for yourself...
I admire your industry and discipline. And I feel similarly about doing music, even now, in retirement. Like I should be doing something WITH it. However, I've decided that, for me, doing music as a hobby -- i.e. for its own sake -- is perfectly fine. And I am finding it a marvelous use of time. It keeps me learning and creative, and thereby keeps me less engrossed in news cycles or worrying about things I can't control. It's also is a way I connect with others. I write songs and play them at open mic events, and am meeting other songwriters. So it has become social as well as creative. I wish you the best of luck.

I do all time! Saving this one to put music to someday. Maybe a Johnny Cash type tune?! 🎶
“No one’s buyin it”
What I have
You don’t want
True as gold
Don’t mean to taunt
I put it out
There on the line
I do my best
I try to shine
Is it me
Or is it you
That puts a pause
That soon withdrew
Money talks
It always does
I raise the bar
Yet get the fuzz
No one’s buying it
Face the facts
AI is here
And she no laxz
